Paw Paw (Asimina triloba) Seedling Tree

* These trees are container grown. Container grown trees transplant at higher rates. 

Planting information: Americas largest native fruit. Grows well in wet soil and in limited light making it an ideal candidate for understory production. The true northern range of Paw Paw is unknow but are established up to zone 4.  Paw paw is slow growing for the first two years and bareroot trees are small. We sell these as trees planted within this period transplant easily. We have observed that older larger trees struggle to establish making seedling the best bet for successful transplant. 

Fruiting information: Paw paw is fly pollinated and requires two trees. We recommend planting 5-10 trees at a time. 

Benefits: Paw paw is an emerging market that has yet to fully be established in the US. A darling at farmers markets this fruit is best grown by small farms rather than large scale operations. 

Growers Note: Recent research suggests that paw paw should be limited to low level seasonal consumption because of the toxin (annonacin) and allergy concerns. Unripe fruit should not be consumed.
