Planting info:

  • Black walnuts grow upward of 100-130 feet and can grow to zone 10-3!
  • Black walnuts prefer sandy loom soil but are versatile and grow in a diversity of planting conditions. The ease of growth and tolerance to diverse conditions make growing black walnuts fun and easy. Black walnuts are adaptive to a range of soil conditions and are highly resistant to pest pressure.

Fruiting info:

  • Fruiting begins at 4-6 years with large crops expected at year 10. All walnut varieties are self-fertile meaning you only need one tree to produce nuts.
  • Juglans nigra seedling selected form mother plants that produce large nut to meat ratio and thin husks. Walnuts are prized for both timber and nut production.

  • Novel applications include syrup products, boutique ice cream with the strong flavor of the nut meat, and natural dye.
  • Long-term investment in timber is also a viable application for long-term financial farm planning. Increase the value of your land with a large scale planting today!
  • Black walnuts spread through rodent pressure and have a tendency to colonize quickly. Once trees are established they make ideal wildlife support trees second only to chestnuts and pecans.

USDA regulations prohibit shipping of Juglans species to the following states: AR, AZ, CA, IA, IL, IN, KS, MI, MO, MS, NE, OH, OK, VA, WV, and WI.
